PR Trip 2003 - Day 4

Tuesday, January 21

Drinking our morning mate on the balcony in front of our room.
Look at all the funny tracks in the sand from the lizards.

I tried to do a faux panoramic shot by taking three pictures in succession and then pasting them together.
It came out ok (I guess). It gives you a nice wide picture of the front/beach area of the resort. I never
did ask why they paint the palm tree bases white. They do that throughout the whole island.

We walked down the beach a little ways. Here you can see the resort in the background. The water was very rough and it was very windy. The advantage: no bugs.
I was still looking pretty pasty white here, wasn't I?
Almost all the palm trees we saw had huge bunches of unripe coconuts. We also saw lots of fallen, broken ones all over the ground everywhere.
We left Patillas and drove west along the southern shore of the island. We ended up at a gorgeous resort in Guanica called Copamarina. The resort had been recommended by the manager of the Caribe Playa resort we had left earlier that day. We were not looking for a place this expensive but when we saw it we fell in love with it and said "what the hell - it's vacation!" The Copamarina Beach Resort also has a web site.
Around the grounds of the resort were several cages with (mostly) parrots. They would call out as we walked by: "Hola!" or "Hey!" or whistled like construction workers at a pretty girl. The talked and squawked all day long, making it sound like we were in a jungle. They went into their little houses at dusk, slept all night, and came out again at dawn.
These birds were in a cage right across from our room. This picture was actually taken the next day but I wanted the bird pictures to be together.
