PR Trip 2003 - Day 3

Monday, January 20

We went to El Yunque, the only rainforest within the United States with our friends, Brenda and Doug and their daughter, Alejandra and Brenda's Mom, Carmen (who took the picture).
It was pretty cloudy, so this was the best shot from a tower towards the top of El Yunque mountain.
Went to lunch at a great place north of El Yunque afterwards. Excellent traditional Puerto Rican food. I can't remember the name of the restaurant, but it was up a very narrow windy road and we wouldn't have found it without Carmen. She lives in PR and knows all the best places to go.
The view out the window of the restaurant.
Not sure of the name of this tree that we saw outside the restaurant, but we saw several more during the trip. Hard to tell from the cloudy skies and dark picture, but the tree is completely flat.
After leaving El Yunque, we drove south for a while and ended up in a little town called Patillas. We almost missed the resort. We had no reservations for the rest of the week so we were just looking for a nice place to stay and we had seen this listed in a tourism book. It was called Caribe Playa, and they have a web site: www.caribeplaya.com.
As the sun started to set in Patillas, we got this nice shot of the beach at the resort.
